It’s pretty amazing just how bad an experience the new GOV.UK ONE service has been. So poorly implemented. An absolutely minefield of half working stuff. Pot luck service support.

Feels like a huge amount of design by committee at great expense. Accessible by a screen reader but incomprehensible.

The power up level of AI developing is mind blowing.

Outside of work I have a new project. I usually plan on paper but like the utility of an iPad for planning.

Couldn’t find a simple app where I can just swipe between pages. So I (it) built this in a few hours 🤯🤖

@justinjackson.ca Thanks for the fun livestream. This is the URL for Pencil. It's literally a design tool in a code editor. pencil.dev

I think once you try Claude Code or OpenCode (can be in an IDE like Cursor, VSCode too) you will be even more blown away. Full blown apps in days...
Pencil - Design Mode for Cursor
Pencil fundamentally increases your engineering speed by bringing designing directly into your preferred IDE.

Managed to pull off the first public talk in Propeller after a few years. “AI & us” went well and was aimed at local people to show them how to use AI in their regular businesses. We’ve been asked to do lots more so it feels like it brought value!! 😮‍💨😅

Finally I got round to writing an article on using glasatar.com on dev.to! Design your own waveform avatars - perfect for AI voice interfaces.

Go and have a play and share your designs here. ✌️

OK. I feel like I have been seriously powering up recently as my ai workflows as well as the tools have been getting better. This is part of a system I’m designing for my own needs. It’s a full blown editor that I started coding on Tuesday afternoon 🤯 #ai #buildinpublic

As part of my “closing down Ordaloca” series, I’m sharing some of the cool stuff we achieved as a 2-person startup. ⬇️

Building startups is rarely glamorous.

We spent years trying to build Ordaloca, a local commerce platform, and are now pressing pause.

Here’s the messy, fumbling, unglamorous side of the journey 👇

Sadly today we pressed pause on Ordaloca.com

Lots of lessons from it that I bundled out into a wordy blog post that can hopefully help others.

So if you want to read about a startup journey that didn’t work out, take a read ⬇️

Been working a lot needing voice avatars on a new on a new project. But then needed one again for another project. So thought I’d work on a JS/React component that uses WebGL.

What do you think?

Just installed the iOS 26 beta on an old iPad. I don’t hold a strong opinion but my first thoughts…

a) it seems underwhelming vs all the noise/complaining
b) the contrasts really remind me of Windows 7
c) it feels slightly aimless in terms of design so far.

What’s it trying to achieve?

It’s been hard to get motivated by my techie work due to just an overwhelming amount of AI stuff to learn and get disappointed by. However after many, many months this week was good.
My take at moment after so much experimenting is that being skilled is key (for now)…

This is a 100% fully vibe-coded app that I’ve been trying to build. It’s almost finished and so far I’ve only read, but not touched the code (hard not to).

The bulk of this has taken around 1.5 days but also working on other stuff a lot of the time.

Happy to share my experience

So great to see people building creatively. Love this 👏👏👏
I'm recording timelapses for every submission - this took 41 minutes in real time.

Soon you'll be able to submit your own images to be drawn on my kilopixel! Can't wait to share this with the world and see what y'all come up with

What a great weekend in #Falmouth - such a great town. From the endless cafés, National Maritime Museum and lovely pubs, to one of Henry VIII’s keeps and amazing naval history. Such a lovely vibe everywhere. 😍 Well done again Cornwall 👏

Told the kids we were going to Iceland this summer and when elder teen joked we might see Bjork, I laughed.
Landed this am. Few hours later we visited a small local record shop. Someone was playing a kicking DJ set. Guess who. 😲
Here's a photo of elder teen's ear, six feet from stardom. Incredible.

@thepanel.bsky.social after a pause for thought, I really like that you are reevaluating your relationship with SaaS @briancasel.com - it’s smart to always check how your biz aligns with your life.
Software = SaaS has become default. But very realistically this could change soon.
Got me thinking.

CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open.
DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open.
CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are.
DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

Fairwell old friend. 🥲👋

“Make It, Launch It” was a very fun few months. Lots of makers published daily updates - sometimes way more. The most impressive being an app that shared 160 days of building! Good times.
