As pictured, he goes on "I think it is useful for you to be aware his distinctions which seem to be merely methodological or epistemological impinge quite directly on the practice conduct of these disciplines"... extremely important point re unis right now

As an addition I have also read a few of Adorno's Sociological essays: "Sociology and Empirical Research", "Marx and the Basic Concepts of Sociological Theory", "Society", and his early 'The Actuality of Philosophy". Then a thought provoking essays by E. Illyenkov called "What is Personality?"

January: Rose's lectures were a lovely read with great insight into the early aesthetic debates in critical theory. Re-read The Trial which was fun. Lastly, A. Schmidt flung me out of my flirtations with Althusser. I would highly recommend.

I find their reliance on 'economic compulsion' for the formation of activity that supports power systems like capitalism convincing. But still think ideology is more about what happens between people, as a relation, than a belief in our minds

Some interesting thoughts. Not sure I agree with you, re Marx, but good to read something from a different perspective on a topic that I have been thinking about. I assume you have comes cross "The Dominant Ideology Thesis" by Turner, Abercrombie, and Hill? (couldn't see it referenced)

So while the old classic and less rigorous 'false consciousness' is unfit for our historical moment. an emotionally charged 'fragmented consciousness', beginning in the 1980s, brings our ideological moment into focus

Maybe the historical form approach they take is correct. They are right about economic compulsion. However, I think (I have hindsight) they underestimate the mediatisation of culture. Symbolic forms and the way we experience the world, especially now is dictated by forms of media

From the classic Abercrombie, Hill, and Turner's "The Dominant Ideology Thesis":
