I had that very specific late-century Florida childhood every middle grade author wishes they’d had

also, if i ever complain ever ever about being tired <at ALL> on here, pls remind me to check the barometric pressure
told my parents that i didn’t want any 🎁 this year, & to instead help me buy new skylight shades for the sunroom.

they currently have custom-fit tiny-width metal blinds, but the previous owners wore out various mechanisms on them. tbf, these were likely installed in 1980 by Pella & held up p well

today is cleaning out gutters, installing heat tape to prevent ice dams, bringing the potted herbs in from the shed, and re-trenching the route from the shed to the house (for eventual electrical wiring) before the ground freezes & i am not excited about any of it 😅

The last 5 minutes of The Florida Project. and not just crying. like, gut-wrenching sobbing
What movie scene will make you cry everytime you see it?
I'll go first.
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
When Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) explains to Mahoney that he going to die.

i love people who love to bake, even tho they’re a complete enigma to me.

if i had to bake my own baked goods for the rest of my life, the rest of my life would have 0 baked goods in it.

(LOVE cooking, however)

throwing in my one pie 🔥 take:

pecan pie is mostly a round version of a candy bar* you’d find in the southern states at a tourist trap gas station on I-95 that also has bins of dried alligator claws for sale, but not really pie

*this is not to say that said candy bars are not also delicious

survived 4hrs of non-stop crying—nay, wailing, by a class of 4 y/o’s today. like dominoes—as soon as 1 stopped, another began

happens every Mon/Tues

am now convinced—at least in the greater PGH region—this is 100% on Sun & Mon night 🏈 causing their parents to yell into the night, keeping them up 😂

one of the best series i’ve ever read, 100%
You know what’s ripe for a comeback is the Wolves of Willoughby Chase series by Joan Aiken. Smart & non-condescending YA, fantastical without being fantasy, dark and Dickensian as hell, extremely lefty and anticapitalist, a full dozen sequels, amazing Edward Gorey covers.

gahhhh i screwed up my paper’s submission to the “using AI” checking system and had to upload it twice more and now trying not to freak out over whether that will ping the system multiple times and flag my writing as AI

i despise this new normal

Absorbed as much sunshine as possible today: took Toby for a hike in a hilly field, planted 10 tiny norwegian spruce trees i got from the Arbor Day Foundation, & studied at my study shelter in the park!

☀️ dropped behind the trees so back to my sunroom that’s 60% humidity & sunny

my friend: “do you want to try to get through the crowd for pics of the fireworks?”
me: “nah, Dave DiCello will have that covered” 😃
I know that I've been a bit quiet on here lately, but I've still been capturing #pittsburgh everyday, and tonight I had the opportunity to capture some amazing images for Light Up NIght. These were shot from a helicopter over the city, and are some of my favorite holiday images I've ever captured.

the thing that finally got me to go, “fiiiiiine, i’ll go to bed” was remembering i light-roasted a batch of coffee beans from Kenya yesterday, and they’re all ready to go for the waking up times
