I had that very specific late-century Florida childhood every middle grade author wishes they’d had

also, if i ever complain ever ever about being tired <at ALL> on here, pls remind me to check the barometric pressure
oh hon, that sounds like rotten way ti start the day. i’m so sorry. sending a big 🫂 that does not squeeze your chest, & strong wishes for the rest of the day to be extremely kind to you both.

it’s also mine, no question 🎶

i’m off tomorrow, so i’ll shovel all of the backyard snow & pile it at the base of the fruit trees to stave off warming soil as long as i can.

the 🐝s have not even been born yet, so i cannot have the fruity trees getting all confused & sending out shoots next week when it warms up.

This is amazing
Well holy fucking shit. Ring cancelled their partnership with Flock. Keep pressure on them to stop volunteering their feeds to state, local, and federal agencies, though, because that part's still going.

yeah, i’m going to try to do one smaller tree a day and build up to the big ladies. luckily, all those years running around on a tight wire on the ropes course has given me the weirdest superhero power—my balance on ladders is insane. but i’ll definitely continue to be careful!

I am apparently clenching my jaw while sleeping, lately, b/c every bedtime is just an anxiety-fest as i try to fall asleep.

unless i’m massively physically weary from some giant project that requires a ton of exertion, but that’s not sustainable, lol.

might take you up on that! looking at forecasts and stuff now to plan. tomorrow may be spent shoveling yard snow onto the orchard ground to try to keep them dormant through the imminent warm-up coming, but the later rain may make that a fruitless 😉 endeavor.

Agree w/Bethany Hallam. We don’t have that kind of time. ICE is taking out blocks of hotel rooms + HQ’s in the gd city.

And it’s seriously a no-brainer if one has any kind of spine and a heart.

Guess it’s time to find out how to call certain County Council members & bother their staff daily, too!
February 13, 2026 at 12:16 AM
hmmm. sounds like i need to read up on these!
February 12, 2026 at 11:56 PM
alternating my usual class work w/watching videos on/reading state extension gardening articles on how to prune (mostly older) fruit trees

it’s going to be a really big job, & dear god i want to hire an expert to do it, but i think it’s ridiculously expensive.

yay for learning new things, i guess?

yay!!! so relieved to read that!

Fetterman a “No” on the SAVE Act, according to his office staff, despite (very) recent press hinting otherwise. They’re getting a ton of calls, too, but it wouldn’t hurt to call today anyway to keep the potential to flip-flop at bay before the vote.

ICE was or is in Canonsburg today. Spotted near Sarris Chocolate Factory area earlier.

🚨🚨 The funding cliff for DHS is *TOMORROW* February 13th.

Votes in the Senate are expected soon.

Demand your reps vote NO on any DHS funding bill or CR that fails to rein in ICE and Border Patrol's violent lawlessness.

the volunteer hours locations are widespread, yeah. w/winter travel, we’ve sort of put those off until spring. the course itself is all online, tho! I got her into Wash. County b/c Allegheny fills up quickly (gotta apply early).
but there should(?) be many city opportunities! i’ll check into it!

what a lovely, exciting thought!

starting by 1st/2nd grade is the consensus, & i think 2nd grade is the sweet spot: they have the motor skills, letter recognition, some reading skills (let’s hope!) & the ability to stick w/initially-frustrating tasks increases a lot at this age (7-8 y/o). There’s a push for K, but i’m not a big fan

yeah, i’m p sure i will be doing sth, esp. as my mom will be a new master gardener in may!
might just be a big garden of a few of our faves.
mostly b/c i need to take a season to really get the fruit trees well-pruned (next 2 wks), well-fed/good soil ph, well-watered, & fungus-monitoring all season

my 2c as an educator of the grades in which cursive is first taught. it’s NOT easy to teach. it is super not easy for many kids to learn it. and we barely (or “don’t”) have the time to squeeze the other important stuff in, like art & music education.
is it beneficial? yep, very.
is it worth it? idk.

re: cursive now req. at all PA public schools
A) cursive is harder work for the brain than typing/printing, & it significantly boosts cognitive processes. that’s well-researched.
B) but! do all schools have the time/resources to teach it? No.
C) the thing we should probs be yelling most about is B)
