Update:

Note that Head Start was born out of the Civil Rights Movement, a federal investment in America' promise of equal opportunity & in our children from the most disadvantaged communities & families.

As someone who benefited from head start, first in my family to go and graduate from college.

It would NOT have been possible through normal means.

Head start not only gets your foot in the door, you get an entire support system to rely on as you navigate college.

I want to clarify something you said tonight about head start…it is NOT for babysitting!! Being in a head start program can be a game changer for children in terms of long-term educational success. See the Brookings Institute study www.brookings.edu/articles/doe...
Does Head Start work? The debate over the Head Start Impact Study, explained
Early childhood education improves school readiness and has impacts not only into adulthood, but on the next generation.

South Carolina is one of those places where no pregnant woman is necessarily safe if she has a pregnancy complication. Add the Republicans' glee at destroying jobs, elimination of Head Start, tariffs to make housing even more unaffordable, elimination of health studies - procreation is a bad choice.

Head Start has helped tens of millions of children and families. Truly despicable cut by Trump monsters.

Eliminating Head Start also risks leaving hundreds of thousands of US children under-prepared for k-12 school. Which means that it also risks forcing those children into an adulthood where they also have to settle for less-than-ideal partners, less-than-ideal childcare, and/or less-than-ideal jobs.

We are a middle class white family. My son benefited from early intervention speech therapy through head start. It was the best thing for him

I work in a preschool that is referred students from Head Start. Head Start is a lifeline for families that need support. I invite anyone who thinks this is a good idea to work in a Head Start location for a week and face the harm they are doing to these children head on.

All 4 of my kids, & now my grandkids, have benefited from Head Start. They were very successful in school and have degrees & brilliant careers. My daughter actually teaches Head Start & helps children who might otherwise be lost academically. This is a travesty & will leave so many kids worse off.

As reported last week, Trump is going to kill Head Start, utterly screwing 750,000 children who rely on it for child care and preschool and a million parents who count on it to stay in the workforce.

Axing Head Start doesn’t just hurt children—it kills jobs. Tens of thousands of educators, social workers, and health professionals will be out of work. Whole communities—especially rural and working-class ones—will lose a lifeline. This is economic sabotage disguised as “parental rights.”
