That event was like…a gentrification pep-rally. But it wasn’t even exciting. If you’re going to “illuminate” the neighborhood, at least bring a band. some gift bags. A Photo Booth. Community mapping. Come on.

Whew! Someone asked what I was practicing and o said “how to sit with discomfort.”
It’s OK to admit that we’re off the map of our experience. The rules & best practices some of us are accustomed to, in certain situations, may no longer apply. There are some questions I lovingly refuse to answer at this time bc I don’t know. We need more humility. Some of our expertise is outdated.

He's in his final term, constitutionally. Act like it. Treat him like the lame duck he is instead of letting him think he's going to finagle his way into a third term with SCOTUS's help, assuming he doesn't choke on Big Mac first

Reporters: Please stop calling things DEI that are not DEI. This is only cementing the propaganda being used to legitimize the dismantling of all types of initiatives that are not DEI as well as legitimize efforts to end civil rights enforcement. Be specific with your language. Be accurate.

The left needs a LONG GAME goal and if we're being completely honest, the only part of the left coalition that has the long game in mind are BLACK WOMEN.

if we’re going to abandon reason, embrace superstition, and regress as a society, we should at least bring back tunics, houppelandes, and elaborate hats. we do not need to look this boring while we’re at it

Lorraine O'Grady lifted me up with her intellect, her wit, her nerve. This assignment came at a point in my life when I needed it and didn't even know. She was a blessing.

I am saddened to know Lorraine has passed, and I am endlessly grateful to her. She lit flames that will never go out. 🖤
The Audacity of Lorraine O’Grady
In wake of her tragic passing today, we revisit our 2024 interview with the renegade and eternally punk-rock conceptual artist.

Oh, Lorraine. Saying the quiet part loud has never been more poetic and timeless.
"Do I remain a revolutionary? Intellectually—without a doubt. But am I prepared to give my body to the struggle or even my comforts? This is what I puzzle about."

About to watch “Jackie’s Back” (1999) starring thee Jennifer Lewis (TY Tubi) for the first time. I never quite knew what “Jackie Washington Day” meant. Felt like I was missing a core Black pop culture reference. The opening credits got me hype! These 90’s cameos are wild!
