Thanks to people like you, this year we’ve made a hard world a little gentler

We delivered menstrual products to 5,000 women in Gaza. We distributed 1,110+ HRT kits to people across the US. We helped 250 families survive after the LA fires

Your donations helped do that. distributeaid.org/donate/

All my storage hard drives are roughly the same age, which feels very much like having multiple pets who are the same age as each other.

Future heartbreak is inevitable, but it's all gonna land at roughly the same time and with the worst possible timing.

Bad news, [internet] besties!

Got an amazing night's sleep and am in a profoundly annoying good mood. Flee while you can. This is your only warning.

Internet hivemind: y'all got any recommendations/big feelings about WiFi SIM routers?

Trying to get internet set up in a weird space where SIM is likely the best approach and would love to piggyback on your research if you've already had to do this.

Build a tram everywhere. Build commuter rail for every medium city. Make intercity travel that doesn't go via London non-shit. Improve tourist economies (and perhaps more than tourism?) by making rail trips to the seaside cheap, easy and fast with trains.

This is like one of those 3D eye-puzzle pictures but every time you look at it you discover a brand new, inconceivably cursed detail.
sheesh, the only thing worse than getting kicked out of the polycule is finding out via jira ticket 😣

Splitting my Indonesian language study time equally between formal study and watching silly online videos, to see if I can balance out how stilted and formal my textbook is making me sound 🫠

I'm a longtime Firefox user who has worked at both the Mozilla corporation and foundation. But I tried out @vivaldi.com last week when I needed a Chromium based browser for a task and have found myself using it more and more.

First time I've switched my daily driver browser in...quite some time...

Redoing my website, internet hivemind: what do we think about including a blogroll style section linking to friends' websites?

Remembering the time a primate keeper at the zoo heard me say I'm afraid of monkeys and she told me about how the chimps will sometimes try and sneak sticks into the indoor enclosure to sharpen the use to try and stab the keepers through the bars.

Delightfully terrifying bias confirmation.

Working on a project that's loosely but well organized, with really motivated people all communicating well.

I love this. I want everything to be like this.

Language learner friends: I've started using LangRead for single word click-to-translate lookups for reading support and love how useful the export function is. I can import the words I've just looked up while reading to Anki/Clozemaster to actually learn them.

My fellow comrades who are helplessly interested in everything:

Y'all got any tools, techniques or tips for building and managing queues of things you want to read, watch, etc?

This new unit in my language class is about one of my special interests.

Thoughts and prayers for my tutor who has to deal with how intense and weird I'm gonna be while we talk about workers' rights.

Testing out Vivaldi for when I need to use a Chromium based browser and so far, really impressed.

✅ All the optional setup gubbins on setup where tabbed off by default
✅ Default search is privacy friendly
✅ Pink theme available
✅ No AI nonsense I didn't ask for and don't want

My (beloved, long suffering) Indonesian tutor just banned me from applying personal pronouns to abstract concepts, things or animals* until I'm more fluent, because saying things like "I love her" about a cute cake sounds weird at my level 🥲

*yes, even if I love them

Having a really exceptional day for focus and working effectively, going to make sure I spend it on what really matters (being a weird little goblin about language study).

Doing some deep thinking about how to best support new programming learners with their search skills after the enshittification of search is not making me a happier or more hopeful person.
