All this talk of a new “Golden Age” feels really icky. Monarchs have golden ages. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of an American Golden Age. Right?

Israel’s Cabinet approved a deal early Saturday for a ceasefire in Gaza that would release dozens of hostages held there and pause the 15-month war with Hamas, bringing the sides a step closer to ending their deadliest and most destructive fighting ever.

I hate that this has to be said in a moment of tragedy. Disasters bring out the best in people—but also scammers looking to profit off tragedy.

Before you donate, double check. Stick to orgs or verified GoFundMes for people you or friends know.

Your kindness deserves to truly help. Sending love.🥺

We had tickets to see the Broadway production of Wicked at the Pantages Theatre today, at 2. They decided to cancel today’s shows around 12:30, at which pint we were already on our way to Hollywood, so we didn’t get the message until we arrived.
A couple years ago we had tickets to Les Miz …⤵️

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

If you are in the affected California fires area, excellent advice!

Keep your pets in to ensure their safety from wildlife fleeing the fires!

Keep buckets of water out for them.

Stay safe, my friends.

It’s weird, isn’t it, that Octavia Butler predicted this. Almost beat for beat. I don’t mean to be woo. And prophecy is above my pay grade & outside my expertise. I’m just saying. 😳

Let's all send our thoughts to the fire victims & thanks to Sally for gifting us this article.

I hope you'll share this post, read the article & tell folks about the disinformation.

We have a chaos agent about to enter the White House. Trump has no help to offer at all, just wicked cruelty & lies.
There's no relationship between fed/state water mgmt & the intensity of these fires or the ability of people to fight these fires,” said Jeffrey Mount, a sr. fellow at the Public Policy Inst. of CA, a nonpartisan think tank. Lack of rain & severe winds created dangerous conditions.

You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million.

That is a lie.

The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I don't know if the LA fire department is properly funded or not but the claim that the city cut its budget last year — which is circulating widely on the right — is false.

As Politico notes, the budget actually INCREASED by $50 million. A portion of the funding was approved in a separate bill.

Just finished Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson. It was a fun YA mystery, very similar to the Truly Devious series.
My favorite quote was part of a theme that ran throughout the book, about how when evil is done in plain sight, we begin to think it is normal, and no longer question it.
