If your book or show about LA doesn’t have quinceañeras, smog alerts, deep hatred for the 405, people speaking Armenian, Farsi, and Korean, gangsta rap nostalgia, blue-collar entertainment workers, getting so used to brushfires you don’t even call your parents about them, just text… it’s not my LA.

Still confused on what the science says about Tylenol and autism? Experts agree that acetaminophen, when used appropriately, safely treats fever and pain during pregnancy. And RFK Jr doesn't know a damn thing about autism.

Read my piece on it all here:

Finding another awfully done "study" in this "journal" ➡️ googling the authors ➡️ finding one is a teaching prof in an English department (WILD) ➡️ finding his awful rate my prof page filled with complaints like "he really is a weird guy that looks at girls in an uncomfortable way"
Is anyone in public health still following the weird fake journal story?

"Journal of the Academy of Public Health" is now "publishing" articles in advance of peer review.

Is this where we're gonna see fake garbage studies "proving" that vaccines cause autism show up in the coming months?

This is an essential account of who Casey and Calley Means are, how they run their grifts, and why Casey's nomination to the post of Surgeon General (her hearing is this week) is a true danger to our health.

No kings, no Nazis, and no grifters in public office.

Bruce Harrell's campaign really thought they would win political points by alienating people who understand that childcare costs way too much and that grandparents are an important part of your support system for raising young kids. Bonkers!

A student got an award I recommended them for, another has a fascinating thesis project brewing, and another got a lot out of the class activities this week. I got to write letters of recommendation for two students I think are brilliant.

The week was hard, but the highlights were worth it.
Today one of my students told me about a mutual aid group they're involved with. Another asked about a senior thesis looking at white supremacy and evangelical Christianity. Another wants to start a book group with Audre Lorde's Cancer Journals.

They're the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Boys will be boys!"

Bullshit.

You regret your Nazi tattoo from your Nazi era? Good.

1. You need to make amends to communities of color, Jews, queer folks, etc. That's your life now. It's what you earned.

2. Public political life is not for you. It's a privilege, not a right.

What this story misses:

Some people who are curious about ivermectin as a cancer treatment will see the studies proving it's not effective, and they'll be convinced.

Some won't. Because for them, it isn't about the evidence, it's about the messenger.

We need new messengers, not new evidence.

Following a Joe Rogan, Mel Gibson podcast, Florida wants to study whether ivermectin could work against cancer. There is not yet evidence it would.

And all the money universities are dumping into the AI bottomless pit (while laying people off and cancelling programs and classes due to budget cuts) will be gone forever. Just like my faith in the upper administration’s abilities to make wise decisions on behalf of our students.
In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.

I just think that if you are going to state definitively that something is not a risk, then you should be able to readily cite at least ONE study that wasn't later retracted as false. or you should have to read ten of the newest papers on how covid fucks you up. vibes will not save you!!

Great thread. Grifters pushing garbage to parents who have questions about how to raise their kids are truly among the worst of the worst.
We need to talk about how social media algorithms push moms down a slippery slope of distrust.

From "Are my kids getting enough support in school?" To "Maybe I should homeschool." To "Maybe modern medicine is bad."

I've seen this first-hand in research I'm doing on parenting apps. 1/🧵

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
