Hello Diana, sustainability and realism is so important! In addition, I believe it’s crucial to raise awareness for balance and encouraging celebration of achievements. Starting a new diet or any change in habit in lifestyle is intimidating and hard! Thus, every small step should be recognized!
This semester showed me how nutrition connects to behavior and long-term health. As a future health professional, I want to support patients with empathy and realistic guidance, helping them build sustainable habits that fit their lives and truly improve their well-being. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I really like this saying, especially as we’re coming towards the end of the year. Many of us may be stressed or anxious, beating ourselves up for not having accomplished as much as we wanted to. However, I believe it’s important to recognize the work we have put in, and view growth as a continuum.

Although fast food is often tied to the pre-existing norm of ultra-processed and unhealthy, it is also critical to realize that efforts have been made to incorporate more healthier options. As many may opt to consume fast-food than going grocery shopping and cooking, this could be a good reference!

This infographic is quite interesting as it showcase that sugar craving may not just be a effect of personal lack of self control, but rather a combination of factors. I had not previously know that insufficient protein and fiber leads to the body/mind to crave sugar, this is a great fact to share!

Tom’s story changed my perspective on the inner fear of individuals who are overweight when it comes to going to the doctor, or seeking help. I will consider this when working with future clients to be more sensitive when discussing weight, focusing on supporting patients @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This should not be ok! Especially with existing socioeconomic gaps leading to both obesity and food insecurity. Without knowing how many people are not being fed, this makes identifying disparities challenging, leading to negative impact on health, social outcomes, and regression of previous efforts
If the annual food insecurity survey is canceled - the US has no way to monitor how often this experience is happening.

1 in 5 children in Kentucky are food insecure (do not have enough to eat). This is a 48% rise in two years.

One fact that stuck with me is that genetics play a role in obesity, with individual’s who are overweight having an imbalance in their leptin level. Therefore, it’s important to realize that obesity is not a sole result of personal behavior but rather genetic factors too #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I agree! Particularly since evidence-based nutrition promotes safety and offers greater security for those who are less educated on nutrition benefits and ways of maintaining a healthy wellbeing. With increasing amounts of fad diets and eating habits that gained popularity, this is concerning!
This moment -- when we have a failing traditional healthcare system + increasing acceptance of low evidence, hyperbolic 'food is medicine'/lifestyle/functional medicine' + a government eager to co-opt/endorse wellness slop -- is particularly scary for folks who care abt evidence-based nutrition

I resonate with the barrier of “unhealthy diet of friends and family.” Despite trying to eat healthy balance meals, I live with others who enjoys eating takeouts and sees “providing food” for me as a way to express love, in which I feel down to turn down their offer. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

As someone who’s ate school meals, I feel a sense of relief, jealousy, and disappointment at this news! Relief because I know how processed some of the food choices were, jealous because I didn’t get the “privilege” to have these “standardized” foods, but also disappointed that it’ll take 10 years!

Great post! I always thought that wild caught will be more nutritious as it seems more “natural” compared to the “artificial” or “modified” farm salmon. However, I feel like this perception is fueled by the negative connotation associated with genetic modification present in main stream media.

I whole heartily agree! We should all pay attention to the voices of our body. If our body craves certain foods that marked as “unhealthy”, listen to it and respect it! Eat that piece of cake, cinnamon bun, or whatever your heart desires! As long as it’s to a moderation, healthy mind is also health!
Cinnamon buns: part dessert, part stress relief. If you’re eating one today, don’t overthink it. Enjoy it! Nutrition isn’t ruined by a pastry. It’s built on habits, not single moments. #RealWorldNutrition #FoodWithoutGuilt #CinnamonWins

Something I enjoy eating is a bowl of noodle soup 🍜☺️. To make it more nutrient dense, I can opt for bone broth and use buckwheat soba as better alternatives to increase fiber, mineral, and protein. Leafy dark greens and meat can also be added for additional nutrition. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

It’s shocking and saddening that this is still the current stigma that society holds toward dieting, despite efforts for body positivity, balanced/well-rounded diet, and inclusivity. I’m curious to know how much progress we’ve actually made as a society. Or whether it’s all just a social media show🫤

On the weekends, I often eat out. This means that although I may know what I’ ordering, I don’t know for sure what ingredients goes into it. Therefore, despite it being easy to recall, I’m unsure how accurate this is. However, I was surprised how little veggies I eat when I dine out. @beh353 #beh353

I think this is great altering perspective thinking. It’s good that someone have fight the battle of body image and acceptance of their body in its natural form. But what about those who haven’t beat it? It’s important for us to all consider that everyone has a different battle they’re fighting.
I've seen a whole lot of content lately about people realising they aren't actually fat, that diet culture has just been lying to them. That's great for you all, but please remember what these declarations say to people who are actually fat.

Although many people think about avoiding carbs when dieting, the nutrient obtained from it is crucial! A fun fact is that glucose (from carbs) is the only nutrient that passes the blood brain barrier, thus, without carbs, your body isn’t able to perform at its highest capacity! 🌾 @beh353 #beh353
