i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Dr. Noor Abdalla will be spending her first Mother's Day as a mom without her husband Mahmoud Khalil, who is still locked up hundreds of miles away from her in ICE detention.

According to Alito, the Trump administration told a judge at a Friday night hearing that it did not plan to deport more migrants to El Salvador on Friday or Saturday, so there was no need for SCOTUS to halt any flights.

Judge Xinis ordered the Trump administration to report on Mr. Abrego Garcia's whereabouts beginning on April 10.

This filing suggests that the admin didn't ask El Salvador his location until April 20, explaining why previous declarations presented info we know now to be false.
