Researcher in biodiversity, redlist-chief, lidar-fanatic, vegetation ecologist, father, Morris Minor owner. English and Danish tweets, mostly about nature.
We now started the important work of updating the #plant #redlist for #Denmark! This work is done by Nikolaj Sass Ebsen and Peter Wind, two of Denmark's most knowing #botanists. Work is coordinated by us at @au.dk and expected to be finished end 2026-2027. #dknatur #threatenedspecies #iucn

Important new study in @nature.com on how #darkdiversity can give insights on the diversity in local #plant communities that observed #diversity can't. With contributions from me, my two @au.dk colleagues @tokehoye.bsky.social & Signe Normand and many others. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Global impoverishment of natural vegetation revealed by dark diversity - Nature
A comparison of alpha diversity (number of plant species) and dark diversity (species that are currently absent from a site despite being ecologically suitable) demonstrates the negative effects of re...

So where in #dknatur lives the highest number of #redlist #species? Our #Biodiversity-map work at Ecoscience shows that this is likely the place with known occurrences of a whopping 113 #redlisted #species(!) in a 1.3 km2 area in N Zealand. From fungi and plants to lichens and butterflies. # @au.dk

Functional and phylogenetic diversity in plant communities are decoupled - check our new study just out in Nature Ecology & Evolution 🍃🍀🌸🍁🍂🌴🌳🌸🌼🪻#plants #vegetation #ecology #plantecology #communityassembly
🌳 New findings 🌳

Phylogenetic diversity cannot be used as a proxy for functional diversity in vascular plant communities 🌲🌳🌴🌵🌱🍀🌾🌼 We used the #sPlot database & found a pronounced decoupling between phylogenetic & functional diversity ⬇️

Global decoupling of functional and phylogenetic diversity in plant communities - Nature Ecology & Evolution
Functional diversity and phylogenetic diversity are expected to be positively correlated. Here the authors show that the covariation between these metrics in vascular plant communities around the worl...
