Perplexed.
4 frame comic. Ciel is answering the Gender Helpline while playing with a pencil. A caller asks : Hello Gender Helpline. My daughter has recently transitioned, and I support her wholeheartedly, but I'm a bit perplexed, because I didn't see any sign of it before. Is that normal? Ciel replies : well first, let's mention that the "signs" you refer to (clothing, toys, interests, etc I guess?) would be part of someone's gender expression, which is distinct from gender identity. Often, very early on, trans and gender non-conforming kids learn to mask their gender expression to avoid social disapproval. gender policing is cruel! Also, it's worth stressing the fact that people aren't trans just because they like things associated with another gender. so unless a child says that they identify as another gender than the one they were assigned at birth, there's no actual sign! the caller replies : thank you gender helpline.
