This is reflected in other contexts too, such as the shift from multi-student university dorm rooms to universal singles.

We’ve been really digging the “Overpowered by Funk” at home.

It’s credited in the article to Austin Clements, so pretty much (in a good way)

No, no, you’re confused. He’s talking about white American Jesus.

Do you know of a non-sketchy recaptcha solver plugin? I know you can buy solutions in bulk for fractions of a cent each, but none of those brokers offer something I want in my browser. (They have APIs so maybe there’s an open source plugin?)

But… the other 30% are loud, retired, and show up for zoning board meetings. 😡

I feel like it should be a law that any affordable housing project killed by NIMBYs must come back 4 years later and 50% taller until it is built.

The previous attempt was a great proposal, and this is even better. Build it. And then do it 100 more times. Now.

The fact that nobody involved will ever face real consequences should be especially galling to authors and technologists who care about such things.

And _also_ we should roll back the endless copyright extensions driven by corporate interests. 3/3

I think it's also important to consider this in the context that the actions that the genAI companies have taken -- massively pirating content -- has led to lengthy consequences (and even death) for individuals pursuing much more likely fair use cases. 2/3(oops)

I think you're reading too much into the statement; it's not at all clear yet that AI training is fair use,. It's a reasonable request to be excluded, and if any of the people involved in training were remotely decent humans, they would have asked first. 1/2

The verb “read” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there — I agree it’s much more complicated, but anyone at OpenAI is free to buy and read a book, but not make millions of copies and sell them to others. Training is definitely somewhere in between.
