I like building robust, complex, useful systems out of bits, atoms, and/or people (with their consent). Unapologetically queer. 🏳️‍🌈 he/him/dad

Primarily @jered@metasocial.com currently.
AI has a different approach to dessert than I do. This is clearly worth billions of dollars and not a massive embarrassment to everyone involved.

Amazon: “Our courier delivered you a box soaked in corrosive acid leaking onto your porch with a crushed bottle inside, but that’s not eligible for return or refund.” (Yes, it is if you chat, but wtf.)

What the heck, is this weird AI slop? Local restaurant on DoorDash. Odd synonym usage makes for a fun puzzle... "Aboriginal American cooking" is obviously "Indian cuisine". "companionable stick" must be something like "helpful staff". "Caretaker Square" is "Porter Square".

Does anyone else get "Severance" vibes from this? Is Google Gemini seriously trying to build the Torment Nexus?

Huh; they changed can sizes in the office fridge. Now we have Liquid Little Deaths. Seems vaguely NSFW.

"to Google" became generic for "to search for information on the Internet" because of its ubiquity. I think it's time to redefine it as "to confidently give incorrect information."

Example: "I asked for directions to the train station and he totally Googled me; I was lost for an hour."

Facebook keeps adding new AI assistant features to Groups, and they default to “on” even if you’ve turned everything else off. (There is no way to remove “Your Group’s AI” entirely.) Nobody wants this crap!

This book came out in 1999 and if we keep winning really hard we can get back to those levels.

I realize they’re on speaking terms with the airline, but still somewhat unsettling to overfly Iran and Russia on the way home when the other flight studiously avoided them.

I had not expected my first autonomous vehicle ride to be in Abu Dhabi! WeRide-based, dispatched by Uber. Clearly not up to Waymo performance yet — safety driver, limited coverage, wonky drop-off — but a comfortable ride.

Singapore HDB built more than 1.1 million units of affordable and quality housing. A government can absolutely build its way out of a housing crisis. (*stares at Massachusetts*)

I think these swordtails are officially my favorite aquarium fish because with most fish we start with 3-4 and end up with zero, but with these we started with 3 and now have 8!

Post you from a different era.

2001, still Cambridge. Don’t know if I can do the hair anymore, and definitely not sure about my knees…
