Problem: Too much 💩! Solution? Science! Imagine students designing real-world applications of human waste for energy, agriculture, and more. #NGSSchat

Let’s learn about surprising uses for human waste
Around the world, scientists are investigating ways to turn poop and pee into fertilizer, fuel and construction materials.

How would you use the #phenomenon of Jakarta sinking to help high school students develop #NGSS DCIs like HS.ESS3.A?

www.snexplores.org/article/citi...
Cities across the world are sinking. Here’s how they might rebound
Affected coastal cities tend to flood more often — a growing threat in this era of continuing sea level rise.

How would you use the problem of GenAI's huge consumption of energy to engage students in #NGSS DCIs HS.ESS3 and HS.ETS1?

How much energy does your AI prompt use? It depends
AI models such as ChatGPT consume serious power. Experts break down where that energy goes, and what you can do to help.

Would you use the problem of tooth decay to help students learn chemistry, engineering design concepts, and cause and effect ideas? #NGSS

Two cities stopped adding fluoride to water. Science reveals what happened
As calls to end fluoride in water get louder, changes to the dental health of children in Calgary, Canada, and Juneau, Alaska, may provide a cautionary tale.

I think too many people underestimate the value and skill of elementary school teachers. Getting students the foundational learning blocks they need to get the rest of their education is not a small task.

Plus, teaching multiple content areas and keeping them engaged over hours deserves more pay.

Some interesting #phenomena here! 🌤️🌡️

Which one would you pick to help high school students learn #NGSS ESS.C and the CCC element "Feedback (negative or positive) can stabilize or
destabilize a system"?

So to my friends who are HHMI-funded, are you going to speak out about this? HHMI is a private funder and does not have to follow the executive orders, and yet....

Per an NIH source:

“Discussions with colleagues have suggested that if the universities all come together and raise hell about the delays to funding caused by not holding meetings, that might move the needle. From every state. There are well-funded universities in red states that will be impacted.”

I cannot understate the devastation that losing #NSF funding would have on K-12 education. For example, #NSF-funded research informed the design of the #OpenSciEd instructional model, which has enhanced Ss & Ts access to HQIM. Share w/ legislators how NSF has impacted you & to protect this funding.
I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

Would you brave using this phenomenon to help students connect NGSS DCIs like LS1.A, LS2.A, and LS4.C?

Poop is on the menu for a surprising number of animals
A new tally finds dozens of species giving food a second go-round, from babies boosting their microbiomes to adults seeking easier-to-access nutrition.
