I don't know how I got it in my head that all classic books had happy endings like Pride and Prejudice or The Secret Garden, but 1984 slapped that right out of me.

I have a friend who studies Chinese, and their theory is that Chinese railworkers brought it to Utah, potentially through the groves in California where it was brought over by the Spanish. Apricots are eaten and used medicinally in China, and railworkers were vital to Utah's early days.
