If Idaho’s only Planned Parenthood clinic closed, other health centers in Idaho would see a 23% increase in patients seeking contraceptives, according to research by the Guttmacher Institute that found that federally qualified health centers can’t easily replace PP.

Firefighters shot in Coeur d'alene and still Idaho won't do anything to regulate guns or who owns them. Republican leaders have allowed this alt-right militia mindset to take hold and grow deep roots in the state. It has only gotten worse year after year. Idaho has a long, problematic history.

As he signed, the governor pledged to work with his team and stakeholders to fix this cut to abortion care funding, which is the largest in the state's history. This comes the same week the U.S. Congress is considering banning Planned Parenthood from Medicaid in a politically motivated attack. (2/5)

44% of all American children benefit from Medicaid or SNAP.

Republicans' budget guts both programs.

Yes: the so-called "party of family values" is putting 34 MILLION kids' health care access and food security at risk.

While not well-publicized, the abortion access cuts were introduced well in advance of the final budget, first suggested in Senate Dems' proposal released a month ago. It’s possible Gov. Ferguson could fill in w/discretionary funds, says Jennifer M. Allen of Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates.

The funding cut is a bit of a deviation for the legislature, which in 2023 passed a suite of policies bolstering access to reproductive health care, and allocated $21 million in funding for abortion services. Additional context: The budget includes almost $3 billion in cuts overall.

I wrote this week's politics newsletter about the unexpected $8.5 million cut to abortion services that ended up in the state's final budget: a 55% reduction in funding for the state’s Abortion Access Project, which supports reproductive health care clinics across the state.

Y'all, so it happened. The final WA state budget includes a devastating 55% cut ($8.5 million over two years) to the abortion access project. This will make it even harder for abortion providers to meet increasing need, and for patients to get the care they need, when they need it. #WaLeg
Today, the Democratic budget writers in the Washington State Senate & State House of Representatives released their final budget plan for the next biennium.

Funding for the Abortion Access Project (AAP) is at risk of being cut by 55% ($8.5M over two years). This funding is critical for both providers and patients.

Please contact your WA electeds and the Governor and urge them to maintain current funding for the AAP.

This is devastating. Immigrants were once again the scapegoat during the presidential election and now we are seeing mass ICE raids.

This is why we expedited my parents passport applications, so they had an easier way to prove they are citizens for when this inevitably happens in Idaho.
