apparently it’s because the tokenizer isn’t open source, isn’t compatible with the one that tiktoken ships
the API call to measure length is too slow, and they don’t want to walk the line too close, so they just truncate

I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink.

It’s a conference about how we can all fix the Internet with Wikipedia, Tor, EFF, lawyers, and activists.

Purpose-built LLMs that are far superior at the job-to-be-done of the tool is a trend I'm sure we haven't seen the last of—especially from makers of tools for builders/creators.
