The Joker one is especially good

Sometimes writers follow the paycheck / path the crowd wants. Baum tried to end Oz, Doyle to end Sherlock Holmes. What else could ERB do in the face of massive Tarzan popularity but lean into it?

Good to know the back half is more miss than hit.

I did read Tarzan at the Earth's Core, as I was reading Pellucidar. I actually got tired of Barsoom because the plots were overwhelmed by needing a rollercoaster of action. Its a style, and Alastair Maclean has the same style. Fun, but only if taken in bite-sized chunks.

He looks melancholy even there - maybe why he fit the Wolfman / Larry Talbot role. That he attempted suicide after the Abbott & Costello fim is so sad. He and Lugosi both make me feel sad.

'Corporate Synergy' is nail on the head. Its about building Agatha as a valuable IP.

Crazy old witch lady babysitter is mesmerizing. Power where none was expected. Shame to toss it in the bin to harmonize with the tv series

Congrats! This was a dedicated read. My brother is a big Tarzan fan, but I've gone gone through the first few books.

Whats your take on the series? Does the style change? (seemed to be ERB sequence of cliffhangers). Best and worst of the series?

He did a lot with technology hardly better than stone knives and bearskins.

Looking it up, a description on an auction site says itnwas actually written by Walt Disney, so he must have been fine with the style.

Since its a book and not animation, more realistic ears don't present an issue. Interesting.

Really?! I had no idea. Wonder if someone didn't get the memo from legal, or if it was an approved try-something-new.

But there was a short time in the 1940s when they weren’t always round…
