The Sandwich Guy’s prosecutor seems unfamiliar with both baseball and the meaning of the verb “spike”
We have reached the moment the footlong was flung. “He spikes it, throws it like a baseball.” It strikes Agent Lairmore in the chest — “he says he could feel it.” Government acknowledges prosecution is not alleging he needed medical treatment.

🚨 NEW: The majority holder of the world's genetic sequence data is a bad actor who can cut off access to critics and competing services. We've tolerated this for years, and now it threatens the pandemic treaty. Time for WHO to step in. With @ctrlalttim.com: www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/to-f...

WHAT A SPEECH. Read the whole thing via the link. My fave:

“More than a million of us stood in our churches, in gymnasiums, in community centers, as we filled in the ledger of democracy. And while we cast our ballots alone, we chose hope together.”
The full transcript of Zohran Mamdani's acceptance speech is very much worth reading in full. Even if you don't agree with your politics, it's very beautifully put together.

This racist Fallout-esque garbage is so beyond parody, that I first wondered if it was crafted specifically to enrage libs on Bluesky. But it turns out they posted exactly the same thing on X (presumably unironically).

"The American Dream belongs to the American People" is wrong. The American dream--a dream of freedom and self-government based on universal truths--is entrusted for now to the American people. But it belongs to mankind.

Ewan woke up on fire after an extra hour’s sleep! In addition to the good top line point about LLMs, this thread has nuanced insight into research in industry vs academia, and even a wry moment of introspection. 🔥
I am genuinely impressed by large language models - they can absorb disparate components of text into some consolidated view, they can produce extremely good language and - with the right model - translate pretty well between languages and they are an excellent text based UI for humans to use. This part of @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social ‘s piece is spot on. Another reason “No Kings” is better is because it’s a good Saxon word, whereas the others are effete Latin words.

As a Physics undergrad I was graded based on carrying out and writing up an experiment (among others) measuring the cosmic microwave background. The purpose was not to train me how to do that experiment, but to teach me how to think about experiments.
