Fans are whipping themselves up into a righteous fury before games have even started all because a ref is from Liverpool. I blame the airing of 3pm games during lockdown and VAR going beyond action replay. Fans at home can now see actions over and over and woe betide you if you call against them

While the chief originator is the annoying need to create “talking points” at halftime/postmatch shows and penalties/cards are an easy gimme. It feels like we’ve crossed the Rubicon on this. It’s no longer individually bad refs or individual decisions they disagree with. It’s now a siege mentality
