It's very hard to be patriotic to a country that either hates you or wants you to assimilate into something you can never be. I wonder every day if the fight for our democracy is worth it and while the answer was an easy yes for much of my life, it's become a reluctant yes at best now.

I was naive but I never thought the powers that be would ring their hands while a sitting president rams a wrecking ball through America's institutions and economy or that a lot of people would rejoice in it. I truly thought we were different sides of the same coin. Sad and terrified.
