My paternal 2x GGF was baptised on this day 200 years ago. He brought my family name to the south of England when he took up a position as a gardener in Wilts and then Dorset. A huge journey for a young man in the 1840s

Knowing this one, he is almost certainly dreaming of the next way to kill something. If he had access to a gun, he’d be terrifying! 🙀. (He’s particularly partial to egg boxes!🤷🏼‍♀️)

Thanks to this dad for clarifying his family and acknowledging his missing child - makes the research just a bit easier!

My favourite part of my family tree! 🩷 71 years ago today my parents married. It was Easter Saturday and apparently quite chilly. (Mum’s godmother shocked she wasn’t wearing a vest!) Younger here than my children are now. Both sadly gone.

Looking forward to joining the #FewForgottenWomen project today. I have my subject’s name and can’t wait to find and tell her story. (Couple of errands to run first, then I shall be diving in!) @afewforgottenwomen.bsky.social

...standing at the window for the light and asking for help with spellings. She died when I was 2 years old but I have vague memories of an old lady sitting by the fire. I was named after her and admire the inner strength she must have had to just get on with life.

OTD 1880 my GGM Emma Jane was born in Norfolk, England. She was 3rd of 8 children, with only 2 surviving infancy. Her older half-brother was a British Home Child who 'disappears' from records in Manitoba c.1901. Her mother died when she was 12 and her father, a mariner remarried 3 years later. (1/3)

Adding to our family story - 97 years old today!

Browsing some Surrey PRs from early 1600s. Sad to see so many servants, children and even wives with no recorded name in the burial records #FamilyHistory

I used the site back in 2020* when I crocheted a temperature blanket to find the weather for days I missed. I know some use it for historic weather data for eg birthday or anniversary blankets/gifts and for FH context info too (*bad year to start but a great memento! 🤔)

Case in point this morning. I’m sure he’s a lovely guy … 🤔

Catching up with a @sogorg.bsky.social talk I missed last week. Definitely need some defined goals and better organisation this year! Have also just added some 1921 facts to wider family members

Definitely there! ‘One’ of my grandfather’s entries…

My mum and my gran were both great knitters but I prefer crochet. However, recently determined to learn to knit socks, especially after chatting with lady on train who was knitting lovely blue ones. Started today as power off for electrician so fewer distractions! Going well so far… 🤞🏼🧦🧶

Late to the party... always knew there was a great spread - 8 different counties for 8 GGPs, but good to see it visually like this #genealogy. My children born in another county not listed here already.

My maternal GGM was 86 when she died. Her own mother died aged just 32. GGM was widowed in 1918, left with my grandmother & 2 sons, all under 6 years. She's in front at my christening (all babies look like Churchill, right?!) My mum was 91 and MiL is currently nearly 97, so technically eldest.

Just pushed back another couple of generations on one of my Surrey lines and bingo! My 6xGGF left a will which I've found on Ancestry. Hello, Edward Peto and family. (Know what I'm going to be working on for the next few days!)

The fab team at Trentham Heritage project have sent a photo of under-gardeners outside their bothy in the park. No names nor date (just pre 1892), but maybe GGF Edward is one of them. I have no reference photo to cross-check, so just fantasy at this stage! #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

Fishing for my military ancestor this week, I found an ad placed by his father in The Field looking for work as head gardener. Knew he had been at Trentham via 1881 census but not Chatsworth. Not named on Chatsworth archive list of staff names - any other ideas?

Pleased to have found this newspaper item about Artie Deryck today www.findmypast.co.uk/image-share/... (originally researched him before newspapers were available)
