Finally cracked a brick wall today after 13 years! Tracked down the girl my grandfather married (bigamously!) back in the 30s. Knew her name, had the marriage certificate but no father’s name or birth place. Today I have found her birth, mother’s family and later marriage. #NeverGiveUp !

Delighted to add another new name to my tree today as my cousin has just become a grandmother for the first time! Don’t forget - trees go forward as well as back!

My lovely maternal grandad was born 129 years ago today 🩶

Enjoyed a day at Blists Hill Victorian town today and learnt some fascinating facts about pharmacies, young women’s teeth and green candles for mines. (Not connected, I hasten to add!)

My paternal 2x GGF was baptised on this day 200 years ago. He brought my family name to the south of England when he took up a position as a gardener in Wilts and then Dorset. A huge journey for a young man in the 1840s

Really enjoyed being part of this and being able to commemorate Martha Croucher. A life cut short too early, and seemingly full of troubles but still important to remember her.

A frustrating day yesterday spent adding more to & writing up a 2G uncle previously added to tree. Lots about his work as a coachman/chauffeur, WW1 service in the RAVC, maps of the places he lived & worked, spouse etc (no children) …

Thanks to this dad for clarifying his family and acknowledging his missing child - makes the research just a bit easier!

My favourite part of my family tree! 🩷 71 years ago today my parents married. It was Easter Saturday and apparently quite chilly. (Mum’s godmother shocked she wasn’t wearing a vest!) Younger here than my children are now. Both sadly gone.

Looking forward to joining the #FewForgottenWomen project today. I have my subject’s name and can’t wait to find and tell her story. (Couple of errands to run first, then I shall be diving in!) @afewforgottenwomen.bsky.social

Looking forward to a trip to the south coast this weekend. Wildlife for him and genealogy for her. (Let’s hope we’re not swamped by the footie fans!) 🚐 🦆🌳

OTD 1880 my GGM Emma Jane was born in Norfolk, England. She was 3rd of 8 children, with only 2 surviving infancy. Her older half-brother was a British Home Child who 'disappears' from records in Manitoba c.1901. Her mother died when she was 12 and her father, a mariner remarried 3 years later. (1/3)

A Saturday night pondering: I have loads of male ancestors in my tree called John, Henry, Thomas, Richard, George, James, Edward, William etc, & these names are echoed in parish records I find from 1500s on. Why so few males named Peter in England (at least in the south, where I'm looking)? 🤔

Browsing some Surrey PRs from early 1600s. Sad to see so many servants, children and even wives with no recorded name in the burial records #FamilyHistory

At the funeral for husband’s uncle yesterday. We’ve not had much contact over the years (v different from my family!) but it was great to meet cousins again & add a few new ones! Had them researched & added to his tree in the car before we got home, as he predicted 🤣 #genealogy

Recently found a new name to add to my maternal line which has led to a large batch of wills online from 1500s onwards for individuals with the surname. Trying to pull out all the names & relationships to unravel the families.

Always a good reminder to consider the reliability of information you find. Who recorded it? Who did they get it from? Was it their information or on behalf of someone else? How long after the event? Was it copied from somewhere else? What was it going to be used for? (Might they have ‘fibbed’?!)

Late to the party... always knew there was a great spread - 8 different counties for 8 GGPs, but good to see it visually like this #genealogy. My children born in another county not listed here already.

Just pushed back another couple of generations on one of my Surrey lines and bingo! My 6xGGF left a will which I've found on Ancestry. Hello, Edward Peto and family. (Know what I'm going to be working on for the next few days!)

#Genealogy Bluesky intro:
Years researching: Around 15
Hobbyist or pro: 'just' hobby
Wildest discovery: My grandfather's other wives and family that no-one knew about (he died before I was born) 😮

The fab team at Trentham Heritage project have sent a photo of under-gardeners outside their bothy in the park. No names nor date (just pre 1892), but maybe GGF Edward is one of them. I have no reference photo to cross-check, so just fantasy at this stage! #FamilyHistory #Genealogy
