In this crazy world, good to know there are some like minded folk who agree we need to challenge the injustices we see in the UK and around the world.
You have to self administer the dose, so those who want to live would simply never take it. It's that simple. This is for people in agony in the last days of their life. Disability is not a terminal illness. Those with terminal illnesses who want palliative care instead would get it.
Did you not read the article and why disbaled people simply don't trust them on that?

It's for terminal illnesses only. Not disabilities. It would be ILLEGAL under the current proposed bill to give assisted dying to a disabled person with no terminal illness/ less than 6 months to live, so it could not be sanctioned by a judge and the 2 doctors.
This cannot be about 'quality of life' (let alone making a hideous assumption that a disability is a lesser quality of life - for someone newly facing a need to use a chair, this is hardly encouraging)

No slippery slopes is the assurance. This may or may not be so, but look at the supporters. 5/13

Thankfully the proposed bill would instantly rule this nonsense out as: they don't have a terminal illness, or have less than 6 months to live, they wouldn't get a judge, and two doctors to approve their assisted death, and thry wouldn't want to administer their own lethal dose of medication.
🧵 Whatever your views on assisted dying, I always assumed we’d all agree that the topic is ethically fraught & complex.

Not so Matthew Parris.

For him, it’s simple.

Earlier this year, he argued that old & frail people *should* be killed - to save society the cost of looking after them. 1/n

Billionaires making $1,000,000 a minute have convinced idiots making $20 an hour, that immigrants making $7 an hour are the reason their wages are so low.

But if you're not an idiot you know its the billionaires blatant robbery that keeps your wages so low.

Brexit: New report suggests UK £311bn worse off by 2035 due to leaving EU
The report came up with a scenario for growth if the UK had stayed inside the EU, and compared it to forecasts the Office for Budget Responsibility made in March last year.

A very thoughtful interview with the wonderful Kim Leadbetter. @lewisgoodall.com put it so eloquently, and I agree - whatever your political views & your own thoughts about assisted dying, we need more people like Kim in politics - compassionate, listening, balanced. Thank you Lewis & co.

I'm working class and trust me, I know a lot of people who believed the crap about Corbyn, Brexit and now 'Poor Farmers'. It keeps happening. Without the working class vote you wouldn't get in, so based on who we've elected in the last 50 years I'd say the majority are pretty brainwashed.
If they went to a private school and speak up for good, it's still relevant - it's good there are some class traitors in the highly positive sense, but there aren't many.

I'm not on board with this characterisation of "working class folk" as brainless idiots though - all parties are riddled with

We know that, we've had way too many Eton Mess farces as leaders. I agree, they're overrepresented in politics and media... but that's down to the UK class system reinforcing that a certain accent/education makes someone 'smarter'. We all know this is nonsense...but the average Joe votes for that.
I'm not concerned with *why* someone went to private school, this is to highlight the overrepresentation in politics/media and also to provide context on someone's career and views

Q: why are you doing this?
A: private school people are vastly overrepresented in UK media, politics, academia, etc. I think knowing who was a private school kid is relevant context when viewing an account

Fascinating thread from @tomcalver.bsky.social.

Public perception of criminal sentencing remains wholly out of kilter with reality.

We need politicians and elements of the media to start treating the public as adults, and debating the topic on facts instead of lazy and hysterical misinformation.
NEW: Are we tough enough on killers?

Just 6 per cent of the public think murder sentences are getting tougher.

In reality, they have jumped 50 per cent in two decades. Why is public opinion so out of step?
