TW: Traffic Violence

This is why we demand concrete protected bike lanes.
Hit & Run on Granby Street.

I'm okay (not dead, at least). Some abrasions, my knee is sore. Filed a police report.

You can hear the driver honk just before hitting me. Didn't stop at all, but just kept going.

Granby through Riverview needs protected bike lanes as well. This was the 2nd time.

Ways to mitigate traffic violence:
- Police enforcement
- Automated enforcement
- Electronic preemption
- Safer road design
- Safer Car design
- Stricter civil penalties

You can't say no to all of them. People are dying violent, needless, avoidable deaths and serious injuries at an alarming rate.
have the online road-ragers seen what people are doing out there? i was almost smeared across the crosswalk by a woman who had her phone in front of her steering wheel. i assume they think they're not part of the problem as they race past me at 90 miles an hour. we agree — hell is other people

Ban Right Turn on Red
More than half of Toronto drivers in a Universtiy of Toronto study didn't look for people walking or on bikes before turning right. Study used eye-tracking tech.

Increasingly deadly vehicles, dumb laws, and irresponsible driving equal people being injured and killed.

Totally agree. So many of these "quick build" paint and flex post bike lanes do nothing to protect bikes and pedestrians. They have been there long enough to prove ridership has increased. Now is the time to truly build protected bike lanes using concrete curbs, planters, rocks and/or trees.
Over 200 vehicles have dangerously obstructed me in the 2way bike lane on the short section of J st between 1st and 10th

@seanelorivera.bsky.social we need policies to protect these lanes w/ concrete and enforcement to prevent rideshares, city vehicles and delivery trucks from blocking them

How bike lanes are maintained by a city sets a tone for how they feel about bicyclists.

This was an amazing event. Great to see so many community members from across the San Diego advocacy organizations.
I can't stop smiling from last night. @thewaroncars.bsky.social delivered much-needed encouragement to fight the good fight with Life After Cars, along with tons of laughs and (deserved) dragging of SD car culture. Best part was just watching all the head nods, pops & cheers from such a stoked crowd

For taxpayers, every piece of cycling infrastructure is a gift that keeps on giving.

An asset that returns annual savings in congestion, pollution, maintenance, safety and healthcare over its lifetime.

Stop asking whether your city can afford to invest in cycling. Ask whether it can afford not to.
