To get the icy SSS look, I CC composite the original texture over-top, then adjust levels to give the impression that the older areas are getting darker.

To animate the transition, It's just the threshold effect clipping only the relevant pixels.

Because 8 Bit images contain 256 colors per channel, you can save an 8.5second animation within a single png! (at 30fps) Honestly that's really long.

Each frame is given a unique grey value and then stacked. It looks like a depth matte but it contains temporal information instead.

A quick BTS of the wine transition.

Dominik Ruckli's match size capsule keeps a cube at the right size and position at the center of the wine mesh. Then I boolean them.

You can see a plane showing the tracked footage FOV parented to the surface. I morph between the two cameras!

The illustration skulls were a last minute addition. The animation is driven almost exclusively with displacement maps.

I rigged up each letter with a random off-settable direction per stroke which adjusted reveal matte angle in addition to just the positions!
