I once again collaborated with my very talented artist sister to write a brand new short story for #Drawtober. The completed story, plus her brilliant illustrations, is now up on my website.

My short story "Glass Slippers, Iron Shoes" came out today with Corvid Queen. This is for anyone who's ever tried to convince themselves they had fun at an objectively not-fun party.

and--idk quite how to articulate this--but the work of it is... critical to art-making. like you discover your intentions through the labor of expressing them. if I'd woken up at 17 with the technical ability to write a novel, i wouldn't have known what i was trying to say. the work IS the product.

Between writing big things For Publication, I spent the past couple weeks writing a little thing just for some friends in my D&D group, and I can't tell you how nice that has been. There's something delightful about writing a thing that no more than four people will ever see.

6 days after Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, a Prague paper published these “10 Commandments”:
‘When a Soviet soldier comes to you, YOU:
1. Don’t know
2. Don’t care
3. Don’t tell
4. Don’t have
5. Don’t know how to
6. Don’t give
7. Can’t do
8. Don’t sell
9. Don’t show
10. Do nothing’

Ah, late July, when my summertime depression peaks because it is too hot and bright outside for a bog creature like myself.

Happy Summer Solstice! My short story, "A Different Kind of Worship," was published today by @hearthstories.bsky.social. This remains one of my favorite pieces that I've ever written, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I am saving this for future reference - it's got some very useful data!
There are loads of ways to rank #literary #magazines, awards is the easiest , but our favorite it probably the Fish List. What other criteria would you include on your ranking list? buff.ly/BtqAxrS

A pile of debris, of wood
and needles and bark;
graves to fallen trees
that we #slash and leave.
These tombs increase fire danger,
but sometimes things
have to burn.

Please appreciate this line that I am very proud of having written.

In British Columbia this week to get some writing done. It is beautiful and snowy up here on the Sunshine Coast, and whenever I get the urge to look at the news this week, I'm going to look at the sky instead.

New writing goal: write a book that is so offensive* it gets banned in numerous states.

*offensive here means (apparently) showing empathy for anyone ever.

I watched Twin Peaks for the first time this winter, and I can honestly say it's some of the most original television I've ever seen. Thank you, David Lynch.
