If the way you think doesn’t make you happy, change it.

All you need is courage to start looking past your bullshit.

There are Twin Peaks fans who will only ever see the suffering and rape of Laura Palmer in the story told on screen.

And there are fans who see that but also acknowledge the lens of Dale Cooper, the witness of the aftermath, become lost in the wake of suffering, doomed to crawl back out again.

The most effective way to enjoy your life is to refuse having enemies of any kind.

You are the problem and you are the solution.

Get to it.

Don’t cross a creative writer. We’ll dream up a story and cast you as the enemy with shit on his pants.

It’s not too much to ask to want to live in a beautiful place, surrounded by cool people.

This is how I know Wes Anderson makes effective Cinema - my dog watches his movies. Not kidding.

I screened the 4K of Isle of Dogs last night and my little cavapoo was glued to the screen for minutes at a time.

I wonder what story he was making out in his head about what he saw on screen.

A bit of self-promotion:
If you’re shopping for a David Lynch or #TwinPeaks fan this holiday season, please consider my books. (A few readers have actually said they’re pretty good!) You can order them for your local bookstore (as well as that other place you all know about).

I wrote the best critical analysis I've read of the film 'The Holdovers. Two years later, I'm still moved by my own words and perplexed at how they came out me because of how deeply this movie affected me.

It’s incredible how many Lynch critics ignore this.

One of the smartest decisions I made was to NOT sell my DVDs in Blu-rays when streaming became a thing.
I witnessed a fellow film and tv lover sell their collection and thought at the time what an idiot they were. I was right.

What if life was easy?
What if you just need to break your patterns of making life unnecessarily hard?

It is a near certainty that John Irving is always going to write about wrestling at some point in his novels.

If social unity is a goal, we must consider the possibility that obsessing over diversity ultimately undermines that goal.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund, worth about one trillion dollars, is reportedly one signature away from buying Warner Bros. for seventy billion. Add EA Sports and LIV Golf to the list. See the pattern yet?

When directors and actors talk about the dangers of AI, they are talking about dangerous to their jobs.

The jury is out on whether AI will enhance or deter human creativity.

I started watching every Spielberg film in order just to enjoy them. By Duel, I realized I was mapping his heart—and maybe my own. Now I’m sharing what I found: themes, data, visuals, and a community that watches with intention.

🎬 Come see what the films reveal

This was one of my first Substack essays, from way back in January, 2022.
There were some interesting similarities as well as a few key distinctions between the characters of Neo from The Matrix and Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.
