An interesting analysis of 1,584 mitigation #policies implemented in #Europe.

These are dominated by #energy #efficiency measures and mainly involve economic or regulatory instruments.

#Low-carbon #alternatives and #avoidance solutions are in the minority.

Current #land-use in UK is far from optimal, but this work shows the evolutions to be prioritised :

A great evaluation of the trade-offs between 3 objectives for rural land: agricultural/forestry production, #carbon #sequestration and #biodiversity.

The deployment of atmospheric carbon capture technologies ( #CDR) as the only solution for reducing atmospheric #CO2 marks a significant hysteresis in global warming.

CO2 concentrations are reversible, but not the #climate and its impacts ( #drought).

Hysteresis and reversibility of agroecological droughts in response to carbon dioxide removal - Nature Water
Using an idealized multi-model experiment and a new hysteresis quantification method, this study shows that equivalent carbon dioxide removal fails to symmetrically reverse CO2-emissions-induced agroecological droughts, revealing irreversible impacts in hotspots in the Mediterranean, northern Central America, southern Africa and southern Australia, necessitating urgent adaptation planning.

Hydroelectric reservoirs could reduce flood risks, or sometime increase them.

Different trends (South America vs South Asia) reveal specific geographical and hydromanagement characteristics, from which lessons can be learned to combine clean energy and climate.

Discover our last Zenon Research Report - Decarbonizing Aviation : a 2050 mirage ?

Aviation faces a paradox: an urgent need for decarbonisation, but a persistent dependence on thermal technologies, low demand elasticity and slow-moving industrial dynamics.
