The only acceptable kind of input buffer is KoF's hold buffer. Everything else is a net negative.

DS3 also being more of a game that relies on fundamental skill might be why the map for it never sticks in my head lol (despite putting in 90 hours)

If pac man were made today, you would just get stat checked and die at level three, then, get chucked into a roguelite progression hub.

bmup fans be like "it's basically the same thing"

idk im more than happy to talk about whatever is done poorly for my fav games, it doesn't feel inherently emotionally negative. It's fun thinking about how much further games can go / how there are so many more games to be made :)

I've had to read a lot of "talking about the flaw is negative and bringing down the vibe / hurting my exp with the game. Let people enjoy things" lol.

not even joking, n64 zelda movement is a sick base framework trapped in a shitty combat system LOL. Cuz you can make it more about setting stuff up. Like needing enough time to turn the camera around -> backflip forwards -> take advantage of the unique dodge and attack properties.

feels like they should've just changed the 4 directional roll animation to something like a roll forward, side hops and a backflip. I think people mostly complained cuz it felt unrealistic to not be able to fling yourself in any direction lol

With rolling in any direction, it got balanced by making the correct angle more obscure instead of relying on making the situation more complex (two enemies are harder to deal with for 4 directional roll, but your plan doesn't really change as much with omni-directional rolls)

100%, and ngl I feel like making rolls work in any direction was a mistake.
Having only 4 directions put more emphasis on deciding to lock on or not, and setting up a good situation required a bit more planning.

yeah and it feels like when bringing up an example from a game, most people try to figure out "Oh so they think the game is good/bad?"

like no, that's not the fucking point 😭

YES that theme + the music in their Kings Field games being pretty basic, but it gives such a strong impression when you're playing youtu.be/3EhctuUkNXU?...

where as with ER on some level I cant really blame people for not trying different tools and getting stuck. Because the other 50 hours dont really ask much from you besides being solid at the combat system, so seeing your equipment as interchangeable tools isnt really a headspace some ppl will be in
September 26, 2025 at 12:21 AM
DeS is sick cuz it feels way more like they're trying to get you to solve things differently. Such as pierce damage being HUGE in the mine, tanking the armor spider with heavy equipment, taking off all armor to run faster in some areas, etc. They feel way more like situational tools u use often

I think the main thing they do well is force you to understand the world cuz of unique one off mechanics. Unlike some action/puzzle games, you can't just brute force through it because of your built up experience in the genre.

(ngl I feel like this literally only applies to Outer Wilds though lol)

yea people take that stuff way too seriously. Similar to how the devs for The First Berserker Khazan changed the name for easy mode to normal because otherwise the people that needed it wouldn't pick it lol www.gamesradar.com/games/action...
"I'd rather quit with dignity than drop it down to Easy": Soulslike boss on The First Berserker: Khazan says many players will quit a game before lowering the difficulty, so they had to add and change...

"The game becomes more about lining enemies up" ???? SOUNDS GOOD TO ME

god so many areas have a great layout, but there aren't any dudes in fucked up positions to take advantage of it 😭

make a horror game with parrying, but secretly make the main villain unparryable. Where it looks like your timing is off, but there's no actual window where it works.

a parryslopper's biggest fear is that they have to try something new

fair. im unable to play it, but those constant little moments of slow mo basically killed any interest i had lol

how's the parryslop (I'm assuming you're playing)
