A third Kentucky infant has died from whooping cough (also known as pertussis) this year as the state faces its largest spike in cases since 2012. Cases are only expected to continue to rise, highlighting the importance of widespread immunization. Learn more: publications.aap.org/aapnews/news...

We can expect more of this unfortunately as vaccine misinformation floods social media. What a horrific and totally preventable tragedy.

One of the great tragedies of our time. Completely foreseeable, preventable, and irreversible. Pure moral cowardice on the part of our political leaders.
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Absolute madness to take something that all acknowledge has worked incredibly well and break it. And once again it will be the most vulnerable populations who suffer the most from this decision.

Very concerning news. Especially related to RSV vaccination which is one of the great technological triumphs in recent years to treat a truly debilitating respiratory disease among vulnerable infants.
“In particular, experts fear that the panel may restrict or roll back a recommendation that it made last meeting in support of a preventive monoclonal antibody to protect babies against RSV. Separately, they believe, members are likely to question hepatitis B shots that are given to infants”

It is insanity to abruptly stop these programs. Even if the plan is to ultimately terminate them there is a responsible and ethical method to do so. This is neither and will cause irreparable harm and loss of life.
@USAID is enduring an unlawful shutdown, purge, and dismantling.

It’s thrown its vital work into turmoil—based on spurious, absurd, and willfully slanted attacks.

Here's what’s real: the massive and growing harm now being caused.

I fear this story will become more frequent among service women who likely have very limited knowledge of the possible limited scope of medical care available to them based on where they are assigned. Our service men and women should always have access to standard of care medicine!
NEW: The morning that Cmdr. Elizabeth Nakagawa was scheduled to have a D&C to remove fetal tissue after losing a very wanted pregnancy, she learned the surgery had been canceled because the military’s health insurance plan refused to pay for it.

U.S. service members have long faced strict limits on abortions, even when used to resolve miscarriages. Under federal law, the military will only pay for abortions in cases of rape, incest or to save the mother’s life.

Would really like our respective professional physician organizations to endorse this approach. It should be all hands on deck. Maybe they’re waiting to see if the nomination is pulled but it feels like this isn’t the situation for a wait and see approach.
Agreed about a physician constituent being given the most weight. A former staffer is who suggested it.

I am not sure this is at all debatable. In terms of lives saved it has to be at the top of all medical interventions ever.
Arguably, the greatest advance in healthcare in the past 100 years was the widespread vaccination of children.
