Professor for behavioral risk management and insurance at LMU Munich. Interested in health care, insurance markets and behavioral topics. Opinions expressed here are my own.
Of all the albums from my youth, Siren Song of the Counter-Culture will always hold a special place for me. No idea whether it is the reminiscence of high school days or just the raw sound Rise Against lost over the years. Just a great 40 minutes of music.

New working paper out yesterday. Thank you for the thread, Keith!
🚨 Rethinking Moral Hazard: Moral hazard in health insurance—the increased spending that comes when you get insured—is usually seen as wasteful due to insurance’s price distortion. This paper challenges that view.

Have we passed peak intelligence?

In international tests, student scores for reading and maths sunk to a new low.

US teens are struggling to concentrate & evaluate information.

Academia really is glorious business. I just spend about an hour collecting all 32 variables in the SCF that are necessary to calculate real estate wealth of respondents. Riveting.

Removing tail risk through tort reform increases the number of trauma units in hospitals and that reduces traffic fatalities in the affected HSAs. Fascinating presentation by Meghan Esson at the 2024 CEAR/ MRIC Behavioral Insurance Workshop.

Wanted to present a working paper here that @valuz, Ralf Elsas and I have been working on for a while now: ssrn.com/abstract=471.... This maybe a bit unusual for #Econsky as it not only has decision theory, but also some asset pricing in it. A thread:

Something worth pointing out about the plan to get rid of VA health care. It only saves money if you think that the vets shouldn't get services paid by gov't. If you want them to get services in another program, it'll likely cost more. The VA is very cheap.

I always read whatever Sam Bowles puts out. This with Mattia Fochesato.

Humans have always competed for status and resources, but enduring inequality requires specific conditions: concentrated wealth, state power, and cultural acceptance of disparities.

Apparently some people need to hear this: the profit margin of the entire US health insurance industry is 3.3%. Many things are wrong in the healthcare system, but sometimes insurance companies are just the bearer of bad news.
I am starting to get some replies; people might want to take a look to see what I mean.
