BREAKING: Tonight, the Georgia General Assembly adjourned with no further anti-LGBTQ bills passing. While we are disappointed that any anti-LGBTQ bills passed this year, it is worth acknowledging that even more anti-LGBTQ bills were defeated.

Yesterday, @ajc.com published an article reviewing the cost of the State of Georgia's defense of anti-trans policies. Despite proponents of anti-trans bills continuously citing defending taxpayer money, their discrimination is actually costing taxpayers far more.

BREAKING: In a vote of 33-19, the Georgia State Senate voted to pass SB 39, an expansive bill to strip coverage of medical care for transgender people from the Georgia State Health Benefit Plan.

The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration where we will continue to fight it.

“We’re not going to involve politics in this decision,” Brass says.

Let’s be clear: this bill is nothing BUT political posturing. Transgender people are being scapegoated by elected officials to help them score political points at their expense.

Sen. Kim Jackson asks Tillery to clarify that this bill would apply to all ages, since Tillery repeatedly refers only to transgender youth.

The government shouldn’t have the ability to overrule patient’s private medical decisions, regardless of age.

Sen. Blake Tillery is presenting the bill now. When asked if he believes gender dysphoria is real, he says “I doesn’t matter what I believe.”

He’s right. We should be letting medical professionals and experts make these decisions, not politicians.
