Am extremely honored and happy to receive a DFF2 grant from the Danish Research Council and even happier that I get to do the project with my brilliant colleague Andreas Birkbak. The project is called AUTOPUBLICS and the headline is Automated Publics: Personalized News Media - Collective Concerns?

It’s hard to describe the distress I feel as a European today. Like a long and dear friend has broken up with me, taken sides with the bully in the school yard, who kills and tortures and gets away with it. With my friend we used to fight for democracy, now - without my friend- I fear we may loose.

Am not posting much, cause book writing…BUT- next week I’ll be discussing some of it in person with @mikeananny.bsky.social and colleagues at USC Annenberg. Am in town for a couple of weeks, and happy to meet up with people in LA with keen interest in tech, journalism and algorithms.

I agree, wonderful piece by Veronica Barassi. Made me also think about issues of trust (as a part of the moral judgement) and how acceptance of error is linked to the fetishization of AI systems.
On a topic near & dear to me—errors!—the always sharp Veronica Barassi has a great new paper:

“Toward a Theory of AI Errors: Making Sense of Hallucinations, Catastrophic Failures, and the Fallacy of Generative AI”

Uden samtykke redigerer Google i andres artikler
Det er ikke nok for Google at dominere al søgetrafik, nu bryder de også ind på uafhængige hjemmesider og placerer links, der sender brugerne tilbage til Google. Lyder det vildt? I så fald er realitete...

I really recommend this essay by Steven Johnson, a writer and editorial director at Google Labs, behind NotebookLM (u know the 'do a podcast on any text' but also so much more app). The essay is super informative in terms of understanding the big leap forward enabled by LLM's. thelongcontext.com
