Gambling ruins lives. It is absolutely unacceptable that the Albanese government will continue to choose vested interests over the wellbeing of Australians and hide behind a watered-down policy - if they ever introduce one. We need action on gambling harms now.

Gillian Wearing’s statue of Suffragist Millicent Fawcett, 2018, Parliament Square, London. The words are a quote from Fawcett on the death of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison, killed when walking in front of the King’s horse at the Derby,1913, to highlight the women's cause.

The ACTU is calling for a 25% tax on all gas exports and for the tens of billions it would raise to be invested in public housing…sounds good to me…what do you reckon we should spend all the money we’d get if we stopped giving our gas away for free? #climate

Ugh can we not have AI depictions of witches (or anything else) please. The self-entrenching stereotypes of AI used for women of all ages are shit-house. If you want an image, please search for a usable one that exists & credit the artist, or draw it, or commission it.

Stipends are low but at least tax-exempt. Unless they go part time, then it becomes taxable. This disproportionately affects PhD students w/ care duties, health issues, young children..

Fab! Whole sentences. Meaningful words. Aaah - the pleasure of literature.
I follow the Moby Dick bot because it keeps spitting out sentences that are delightfully relevant to the news.

Here Melville reminds us that corruption goes *way* back—no doubt all the way back to the invention of money.
even the high lifted and chivalric Crusaders of old times were not content to traverse two thousand miles of land to fight for their holy sepulchre, without committing burglaries, picking pockets, and gaining other pious perquisites
