Great article. My grandparents and in-laws all said living through the war was terrible, they weren’t jingoistic in the slightest. Every VE Day was one of quiet contemplation, not plastic flag waving.

After peeking at BBC News at lunchtime, I agree. I hope the current govt are going to implement some popular action - and soon. The real losers are conservatives though, voters seem to be abandoning them for r**f**m locally
