Fine art printmaker from York, England. Dapple scrumper. Sometimes found loitering in a medieval hall and talking to strangers. Not at home to joy sponges.
More professional and businesslike on Substack and my website. https://linktr.ee/janeduke
The first layer of a new reduction print always looks a bit rubbish. At least mine do. I have to keep the faith...

First use of a thermal vest for this morning's shift at @barleyhallyork.bsky.social. Winter is coming.
(I should point out visitors are perfectly comfortable because they are moving around and generally dressed for outdoors).

Shocked I tell you, SHOCKED.

*bangs drum*
There is absolutely a need for art that shocks, disturbs and challenges, but THIS is why I unashamedly continue to create 'pretty pictures' of natural scenes. The lovely messages I get from people who have felt better after looking at them tell me I'm doing something worthwhile.

'Rotter' not on Worgle's word list. I say.

On duty as a room guide @barleyhallyork.bsky.social this morning. I had an awful night (poorly husband) and am shattered, but you're not allowed to lie down on the beds. 'Fragile' apparently. *sigh*

A reduction linoprint finished this afternoon. (9 ink mixes, 7 layers/stages of printing).

When even the BBC doesn't know the difference between 'honed' and 'homed'. *bangs head on desk*

There's nothing like hearing that someone you spent the weekend with now has COVID to make you feel a bit iffy.

May I introduce a group of wonderful people and very valued friends: the York Printmakers. Pictured here at the end of our annual print fair (which this year included a day of spectacular rainfall and bitter cold) when we were at that stage of extreme tiredness which borders on mild hysteria.

Bleedin' enormous (about 8 cm long) dragonfly on the echinops. I mean LOOK AT THOSE LEGS. It looks like a Doctor Who monster 😱

No mention in this BBC article of Nick Thomas-Symonds' age. I'm hoping he's 97.

And so it begins.... first layer being printed this morning.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here!

Oh this is wonderful. Checking the route to a friend's house I find there is a set of temporary traffic lights that has got so many reviews Google has identified it as a tourist attraction. 4.2 stars. Open 24 hours.

It was just the evening light coming through the tall bushes outside the window. You can see it moving here.
August 25, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Walked into the sitting room and for a moment genuinely thought bleach or paint had been spilt over the (new) sofa 😱

In one of those 'months to get around to doing, twenty minutes to actually do' jobs, I've finally got my three 'Mummers' prints by @matpringle.bsky.social up on the wall. Thanks Mat!
