RFK Jr: “We will create an honest, unbiased, gold-standard science at HHS, accountable to the President, to Congress, and the American people.”

Here is the list of cuts not advertised or reviewed but instead pieced together by us from leaks. The programs in bold (most) have ALREADY been cut.

Trump and MAGA want to destroy American science to force US universities under the authoritarian thumb.
Good that some people are now speaking out. Don’t be afraid to be political, scientists. Science is political.
Northwestern has not received any NIH funds since March. No written communication about why or what can be done. Thank you Ben Singer for raising awareness at #ATS2025

Everything may change, but it’s not done yet.

Scientists can still bend the arc of history. But “keeping our heads down” isn’t going to work. It would be good if universities spoke out now. That means you, college presidents. Don’t be Columbia. Come out swinging.
"No one is coming out of the sky to give you your grant money. Your citation portfolio won’t survive this market crash. Your credentials mean nothing. Everything is going to change."

If you wonder how countries slip into dictatorship, it’s like this.

Amidst another flurry of news, an official adds at the end that Trump has signed an Executive Order saying that “only the President or Attorney General can speak for the US…as to what the law is.”

What?!

My advisor, @profgabriele.com , pointed out that this tweet is more or less the perfect summation of what my dissertation is getting it. The terminally online, hateful and irony poisoned language-game of 4-Chan has become the language of politics in the most blatant and obvious way possible.
man this is legit no different than a 4chan /pol/ post. like truly no difference, down to the ASMR gag. from the white house account.

Just another reminder that the system is working exactly as it was incrementally designed and implemented, which is just to say - for the profiteering elites and not the people.

More bluntly: we got into this business to tell the truth to the very best of our ability. Remaining silent in the face of mis- and disinformation is a betrayal of our purpose.

The story of Galileo is one of our founding stories for a damned good reason.
One of the questions after my talk today was about scientists refusing to buck the administration because they fear losing their jobs.

I said that a lot of self-styled apolitical scientists lost their jobs this week, so silence will not save them. Respond and keep your values and dignity.

“American institutions [including science institutions] continue to **underreact**” to what is happening.

American institutions—from the media to Congress—continue to underreact to the unraveling of our democracy. Overseas our media would not hesitate to call what we’re living through a full-blown autocratic coup. Here's my attempt at the story they should write: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-trump...

RFK just released his plan for HHS.

He claims he will “eliminate conflicts of interest that skew outcomes and perpetuate distrust.”

Hypocrisy. RFK profits from spreading disinformation about vaccines and suing vaccine makers, which creates distrust in science and kills people.

As a science advocate, something I hear a lot is that people think government would be better if there were more scientists and physicians elected to Congress. Senator Bill Cassidy's cowardice in voting for RFK Jr, show us that expertise is useless if you have no morals.
