“Nobody voted for mass migration”

No.

You voted for underfunding, outsourcing, deregulation, and short-termism.

The migration came later - to clean up the mess.

Very good.
People voted for fantasies, not facts.
They voted for the tooth fairy and are now pissed off that she never visits, blaming immigrants for frightening her off, rather than the politicians who keep peddling the vote-winning (but country-ruining) deceit.

1. Made deal to move Maxwell to cushy min security Club Fed facility.

2. Had worst jobs report come out in a decade.

3. Said report was rigged & fired govt employee who made the report.

4. Moved 2 nuke subs off Russia to threaten them.

5. Flew to a golf outing.

The whole edifice of modern society - from brain surgery to air traffic control - is built around accuracy and facts.

But they want to build it around the ‘free speech’ of autocrats, kleptocrats and other outliers of hoof wankerdom

It will all crash down
Holy shit this is real Soviet/N. Korean style stuff. After the dismal jobs report Trump is going to fire people who compile the data and replace them with hacks. The markets and American people will never be able to trust these numbers again.

So Patel and Gabbard’s whole claim of a Russia Hoax from Clinton and Obama is based on emails which were proved to be a Russian concoction by a Trump appointee years ago?

I personally think Trump is more afraid of what the Epstein files can reveal about their joint Russian financial connections (remember they fell out in a bidding war over the Palm Beach mansion and Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev) rather than direct sex kompromat

Actually the UK elite did not really engage with the EU at all. It didn’t understand it and still doesn’t.
The UK has a major democratic deficit that stifles public engagement. The UK public support rejoining.

You can say that again, although I think it goes to show how dysfunctional the UK's political and social system is, when it is too easy for a bungling amateur to become PM just because of the school he went to, and has too many discretionary powers when he gets there.

The issue is we are stuck in the past, wanting to be outstanding when we aren't even satisfactory.

Danny Dorling has written well about the true 'strangers' among us - the privately educated wealthy, who effectively live apart (like Farage and Tice) & they want us to hate the EU and foreigners.

You are right Niall. The UKs absolute failure of statecraft goes back a long way. Our political, economic and cultural elites still don't understand how the EU actually works. Worse, they don't want to learn www.cer.eu/publications...

The British are more hostile to the EU than any other European people. But why? Charles Grant looks at the role of geography, history and economics in nurturing euroscepticism.

When a young man in Dublin City, I hung around with an American lad. This fellow had been living and would continue to live in Ireland for years, despite having no visa and no European citizenship.

Given all the recent Etias excitement, I thought I'd relate this story.

Is this the kernel of the problem? Is it the unwillingness to acknowledge that Europe is a legitimate world actor. At this point, it's a hang-up

And is that reflex rejection what is actually stopping the UK moving towards Europe?

The history is interesting.
