The Phillies have won 10,220 games and would have to go undefeated for 6 straight seasons and then start the 7th season 145-0 to reach a .500 record and I love them with all of my heart
Due to the amount of games in a baseball season & how long they’ve been a team, I believe the Phillies have the most losses of any team ever.
When they won in 2008 I stood outside the bar (in Madison, Wis.) I was at, smoking, & saying “fuck you, the Phillies won the WS” to anyone who walked by.

as a latecomer to sports i cannot imagine cheering on a dominant team. the whole point seems to be experiencing a kind of collective ritualistic suffering punctuated by brief, ecstatic glimpses of triumph
