Beshear: Let me be clear. The president has both the funding and the authority to fund snap during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.

“Walmart was the top employer of SNAP recipients in five states and one of the top four employers in the remaining four states. McDonald’s was among the top five employers of Medicaid enrollees in five of six states and SNAP recipients in eight of nine states.”

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

I have something to say about Congress' efforts to cut food assistance programs.

We must act now and tell our Members of Congress to respect the late Senator Dole's legacy of reducing hunger -- tell them #HandsOffSNAP.

What a line from Warren Buffett this morning:

“Be kind, and the world is better off. I'm not sure that the world will be better off if I'm richer."

Oh. They’re looking for ideas? I have some: mandated parental leave, universal child care, universal health care, raise the minimum wage (still $7.25/hr in KS), basic living income, free school meals for all, free college, affordable housing. See how easy it could be to actually support families?

Rieckhoff: He's losing his women and children. His cities are being bombed, and we're talking about his clothes? It was victim shaming, which is what trump has been doing to Zelenskyy and Ukraine since before he got elected. It's unacceptable.
