President Trump’s directive to test nuclear weapons “on an equal basis” caused widespread alarm. But is the U.S. actually about to start testing nuclear weapons again?

The reality of the situation is a bit murkier than it may seem. @jamiekwong.bsky.social explains.

Vacancies in forecast offices elevate risks to the safety of local communities (which should be the top priority)… But from a nuclear perspective they also reveal major blind spots in regions hosting U.S. ICBM silo fields that are prone to flooding, making this a national security concern too.

Iran has little room to negotiate in upcoming nuclear talks. It may see NPT withdrawal as its strongest card, writes @carnegienpp.bsky.social ’s @jamiekwong.bsky.social – which would be extremely dangerous.

Really enjoyed speaking with @gbrumfiel.bsky.social about nuclear tests, subcritical experiments, and our trips to the Nevada desert. Check out his article for a great and super informative read!
NEW: I got a RARE look inside the underground complex where America conducts its subcritical nuclear weapons experiments.

I was told reporters hadn't been down there since the mid-1990s. Read on to learn how American maintains its stockpile without underground tests.
