Mark Rutte is clear that NATO needs to start preparing today: we can still defend ourselves but Russia could be ready to use force against NATO territory in 5 years. @chathamhouse.org

The defining contribution of Donald Trump’s first 100 days has been the injection of uncertainty: into international relations, into trade – and at home in the United States.
Trump’s 100 days have been like no other
But the scale and shock of the president’s policymaking threatens to undermine his primary foreign policy objective: maintaining an advantage over China.

By integrating its nuclear forces more closely into NATO, France could send a clear signal regarding its commitment to nuclear deterrence in Europe.
France should join NATO’s nuclear sharing arrangements to strengthen European deterrence
Anxieties over US threats to stop protecting the continent are prompting various proposals to reinforce Europe’s deterrence posture – but many of these have serious flaws.

I understand (and share) the feeling but this would not help Ukraine, Europe or the U.K.
Instead of performatively cutting ties with the US, the U.K. should focus on doing more with Ukraine and Europe as a whole. Don‘t say 'I won‘t have anything to do with you‘, just do more with the others.
Trump cannot be given a state visit to the UK. It should never have been offered. The invitation must now be withdrawn. You might as well hand it to Putin.

This last question is really critical - we know it will take time for Europe to ramp up supplies - what is available to buy in the meantime from elswhere?
London summit on Sunday all the more urgent.
- Keep pressing Trump on guarantees, even if prospect fading
- Do all possible to avoid Trump blaming Ukr and/or Europe for a no-deal
- No alt. to rearmament in every scenario
- Prepare to keep Ukr armed to best poss. degree e.g. what can ROK/Turkey sell?
