This article links tech layoffs that started in 2022 to a Section 174 change in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which ended immediate R&D write-offs.

The assumption was companies using savings from the tax cuts to cover the increased tax bill on R&D spending. Instead they’ve cut headcount.
The hidden time bomb in the tax code that's fueling mass tech layoffs
A decades-old tax rule helped build America's tech economy. A quiet change under Trump helped dismantle it

Sergeant Gonell @sergeantaqgo.bsky.social sent me this picture. This is his call log. Each call is an automated Dept of "Justice" notification saying "The defendant you testified against is being released from the dept of corrections."
Each defendant assaulted him.

Does this apply to the US? The US defense budget is $824 billion. That’s about 3.1% of GDP. To get to 5% of GDP would mean another $500 billion in defense spending. Is Trump going to propose that and where will the money come from? Or is 5% only for other countries? www.politico.eu/article/dona...

When a partial meltdown of Ontario's Chalk River Nuclear Power Plant occurred in 1952, one of the 150 Americans brought in to help dismantle the parts of the reactor was Jimmy Carter.
He was lowered into the reactor in 90 second shifts, which was enough time to remove one bolt.

Yep, when people make pro-tariff arguments that go” I support a 20% universal tariff because I’d pay $5 extra for an US made shirt” they aren’t realizing that they’ll probably be paying $5 extra while still buying Bangladeshi T-shirts
i think when people say this stuff they are imagining a world where they pay like, $10 more for a $15 t-shirt and not $40 more.
