The bittern is a secretive, 'skulking' bird which habituates the reed beds. Somewhat of a conservation success story, their numbers have significantly increased over the past decade here in the UK. Masters of stealth with a deep booming call; they're often heard yet rarely seen.

In a narrow marshy valley in Snowdonia, this hut circle lies close to the Afon Lliw river as it meanders down the valley. The hut was constructed upon a platform that raises it about a metre above the valley floor, possibly to avoid flooding. More...

If this were Just Stop Oil, there'd have been dozens of arrests, furious denunciations in the billionaire press and, perhaps, long jail sentences. Farmers have a right to protest, and the police respect it. Other people, it seems, not so much.

Rame Head is arguably the most reliable site in Cornwall to connect with Cirl Bunting year round. With patience, I found a pair sheltering from the east wind around the coastguard cottages today. Also, 2 showy Firecrest and prolonged views of a superb Barn Owl in the churchyard #ukbirding
