I think the trajectory of utility for a lot of people who need to Code Some Stuff ends up at 'limited use tool' or 'investigatory mechanism' and not 'let's fire this up at 9am every day because it's so deeply handy'.
I'm sure experiences differ.

I think you get a sugar high when something complicated that crosses several hundred lines of code produces correct outputs from correct inputs. And it isn't ideal but it works.
Then you think 'even if I have to understand what the hell is happening here, it'll save me time ON AGGREGATE'.
