Thank you @cbcstephenquinn.bsky.social for your conversation with Mayor Sim, who is clearly not a good fit for his current role.

Language around Canadians not traveling to the U.S. is telling. American media still seems amused at our reaction to "the rhetoric that many Canadians feel is condescending." Your criminal president threatened our very existence -- it goes way beyond hurt feelings.

Councillor @seanorr.bsky.social via his ‘gram: “Last night, after council was dispersing around 10pm, I heard [Mayor Sim] say something that really bothered me… He said ‘What an awesome waste of time. Another day in paradise.’”
Ok folks we are back at it again from 1-5. Yesterday was a lot. Heard from so many passionate Vancouverites.

Unfortunately I heard the mayor say it was a waste of time. But I assure you, I’m listening.
Budget hearing continued after short recess. 157: environmental lawyer (?)Reads poem. 158: raised in east van. This is austerity and hasn’t been asked for. I’ve been lucky enough to use public services. Breaks my heart to think they won’t get same quality. Few people asked for this police budget.

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.

This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.

Another gross example of the degree to which we normalize traffic violence: A child and a vehicle somehow “collide” in a crosswalk outside an elementary school. Slow clap to Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows News, owned by Black Press Media.

Imagine if NPR had actually talked to safe streets advocates for this story and learned how the solutions to drivers killing people is not, in fact, victim blaming

As a person who identifies as neurodiverse, I feel deep disgust at Dear Leader’s baseless declaration that acetaminophen causes autism in utero. This lie will cause incalculable harm to children and families.

Bligh has a decent amount of support from the province and feds (more than Sim or Allam at this point), which could help.

But her 6 years being a supporter of Ken Sim, and getting elected under both the NPA and ABC banners, means it’ll be difficult to get support from local left-wing parties.
Rebecca Bligh voted to slash wages for workers, to block rental housing in wealthy neighbourhoods, and to oppose common sense tools to properly fund our schools.

We need a progressive mayor on the ballot to deliver the change Vancouver needs. And we’ll get one. More soon.
Vancouver councillor Rebecca Bligh makes official she will run for mayor next year under a new banner of “Vote Vancouver”.

Bligh was first elected in 2018 with the NPA, left them, joined Sim’s ABC Party and was re-elected, before she was booted from ABC, mostly on divisions over social issues.

Apartments (including rentals and below market homes!) are banned from most of the city's nice side streets.

That sucks!

@lucymaloney.bsky.social's motion to legalize 6 floor apts by parks and bike routes could help change that.

Here's how you can show support:

Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.

No matter where you are, If you’d to support Canada and Canadians during this unprecedented economic attack, please consider supporting Canadian businesses by buying Canadian products, services and industries, and supporting Canadian tourism in our great cities and places.

Please share. Thank you.
Another news story tonight about how Trump’s ILLEGAL tariffs are devastating the Canadian economy and the country’s unemployment rate.

The United States Govt is currently attacking and harming Canada & Canadians more than any other country in the world is.

While also harming its own citizens.

Vancouver is a city for all its people. Trans people included. I am calling on the Park Board to rethink this event and make this right.
