The mystery of these old 1950’s jazz and pop records has been resolved. These were my grandfather’s records. Found a Wheaton, IL sticker Don Cornell’s “Athena.” I must have taken them when we cleared out my grandmother’s house.

I don’t know who loved this Bobby Vinton so much, but for a beater — it sounds quite good.

For a point of reference — here’s the box of 45s I’m dealing with. There’s at least 50 in here.

My parents handed me a box of my old 45s. Found this gem after suffering through a bunch of Woody Woodpecker Talent Show.

I got a new phone for the first time in five years, so like an old fart with a greater sense of mortality I’m mostly excited I can stretch time on the lock screen.

I was really down on my new movie selections late, but DEADLINE AT DAWN (Harold Clurman, 1946) — currently streaming on the @criterionchannl.bsky.social — totally changed my fate. It’s a fun, ambling “one crazy night” noir with deliciously purple dialogue and great leads in Hayward and Lukas.

22. Anima Rising by Christopher Moore
This isn’t a top-tier Moore, but every Moore is worth the time. ANIMA collides Mary Shelley with Freud and the art world of Gustav Klimt and weaves a tale of The Bride as muse and repressed trauma victim with lots of comic sex and masturbation. #booksky

21. Time Loops and Meet Cutes by Jackie Lau
Cutesy title, but a well-written if occasionally trite (and horny) magical realism rom-com with Groundhog Day vibes. Outside my normal reading roster, but a pleasant excursion.
